Dear Partners in Ministry, As I watch a group of ladies drop off a carload of handmade quilts for our Quilts of Hope distribution, I think to myself, “That’s a really special gift.” During staff meeting, I learn a homeless man who spent several nights a month at our Bethel Mission emergency shelter but never attempted to overcome his addiction is now a member of our Journey of Hope recovery program! Afterward, I thank God for this special miracle. As SAM Team volunteers return from a nearby homeless tent camp, I hear that one of them said, “I had no idea people lived like that. I want to do more.” I realize what a special education these folks receive from this experience. Something special is always going on around here! Our donors’ generosity and compassion ... the humble prayers of a homeless man ... the understanding that comes with connecting with the homeless ... it is God at work at Hope Ministries. Thank you for being “someone special” to this ministry! As 2008 begins, I look forward to working alongside you to give hope and change lives in central Iowa.
