A Message from the CEO

Leon Negen grabs a bite to eat and a chance to chat with volunteers and residents at our Door of Faith facility. “Hope often begins with a simple meal,” Leon says.

Dear Friends,

I’m not the most technical person in Des Moines, but I’m great at searching the Internet for information. That’s how I learned that if you “google” the word hunger you’ll find 44,500,000 sites dedicated to the issue. Interestingly, articles on world hunger share the same page with sites that tout miraculous weight loss programs.

At Hope Ministries, we deal with hunger issues every day. We see children suffering from malnourishment or bad food choices. We see adults who’ve starved themselves under the control of addiction. And we’ve seen homeless and hungry men, women and children blossom as they’ve gathered at our Hope Café to eat balanced meals and to fellowship with our staff, volunteers and one another.

For decades our community has faithfully come alongside Hope Ministries to ensure our pantries are full of nutritious food. In this issue of Stories of Hope, learn how food and fellowship bring hope and encouragement to men, women and children in need. Thank you for providing the means for the homeless and hungry to gather ‘round our tables.

Leon Negen
President/CEO
