THANK YOU!

Dear Friends, Donors, Volunteers, Churches, Businesses and other Partners,

Never before has the need been greater for food, clothing, shelter and recovery services for the homeless in Des Moines and central Iowa. Yet we see God at work with many more churches and businesses reaching out to partner with our Christ-centered ministry, and through the involvement and investment of volunteers and generous donors.

In these uncertain economic times, we are humbled and inspired by how God continues to sustain this ministry as He has since 1915. If you have ever prayed for Hope Ministries and those we are serving, or volunteered or donated money or clothing, food or other items, or told someone about our work with the homeless, we wish to express our sincere THANKS and APPRECIATION for your acts of kindness!

Because of your great outpouring of support, we are filled with hope for the future and confidence that God will continue to be faithful in providing for our every need as we tend to the homeless in our community.

In this issue of our Hope's Helper E-bulletin, we are announcing our First Annual WALK A MILE IN THEIR SHOES event—a walk-a-thon to help the homeless in central Iowa. We hope you will plan to "experience" this walk with us.

In addition, there are other announcements and invitations for you, your family, your workplace or church or civic groups to become involved and to partner with Hope Ministries.

If you have not regularly received this e-mail in the past and would like to continue receiving it in future months, you may sign up online to become a Hope's Helper by clicking here or by contacting us at info@hopeiowa.org or (515) 265-7272. Thank you!

Summer of Hope

You can help make this a Summer of Hope for the homeless and hungry by participating in our summer outreach, already in full swing. Some of you may have received information in the mail about how you can be a part of restoring lives in just the 90 days of summer. One way we're encouraging involvement is through our "$1 a Day for 90 Days" outreach, but there are also many other ways to partner with us. You could commit to prayer for our ministry and those we serve during the summer or organize a donation drive. If you have time on your hands, as little as 90 minutes of volunteering can make a big difference in the quality of assistance we provide to the poor. You can learn more about these opportunities and others by visiting our Summer of Hope page.

Events, Volunteer and Outreach Opportunities

SAVE THIS DATE: SEPTEMBER 5, 2009
Walk a Mile in Their Shoes—Hope Ministries' First Annual Walk-a-Thon: Hope Ministries will host our first-ever walk-a-thon on Saturday, September 5, at Copper Creek Lake in Pleasant Hill. This family-friendly (non-competitive) event will generate funds and raise awareness about Iowa's homeless and hungry. All proceeds will benefit the men, women and children served by Hope Ministries. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Copper Creek Theater, and the walk around Copper Creek Lake begins at 10 a.m. To learn more, click here or contact us at info@hopeiowa.org or (515) 265-7272.

Results of our 2009 Hearts for Hope Women's Tea: Our Sixth Annual Hearts for Hope Women's Tea was held Saturday, May 9, and we were positively overwhelmed by the support of so many women who attended. Over 800 women reserved a seat at this event and together, attendees raised over $78,000 for our Hope Family Center. For all who attended, thank you for your support! Be sure to mark your calendars for next year's event, scheduled for Saturday, May 1, 2010, once again at the West Des Moines Sheraton Hotel. Click here to read more about this year's Tea results and view the photo album.

Volunteers needed: Hope Ministries is looking for volunteers to serve as donation pick-up drivers. We have also recently revised our Meals for Hope and Dairy Donor volunteer opportunities. Click here for expanded information on meal-related volunteer opportunities. If interested in volunteering in any of these ways, please contact Erin, our volunteer coordinator, at (515) 265-7272 or send an e-mail to info@hopeiowa.org.

Churches, Youth Workers and Ambassadors

VBS Mission Opportunity: We invite you to contact us for more information about our Change for a Change mission opportunity for your summer Vacation Bible School. Change for a Change was originally initiated by a local 5-year-old and her mother whose goal was to collect enough loose change to buy 500 diapers for Hope Family Center. She ended up providing over 11,800 diapers—enough for a six-month supply for our Hope Family Center! If one 5-year-old can do this, imagine what your local church could do!

Take the g2:10 Challenge: Why "reinvent the wheel" when you can plug right in to an existing program? Hope Ministries has numerous g2:10 outreach opportunities right here in the mission field in our backyard. Click here to visit our Church Resource Page and read more about the opportunities we have for you to reach out to the poor.

Attention Youth Workers! Are you looking for opportunities for your youth to put their faith into action? Hope Ministries has numerous service and mission opportunities and work projects for your youth group throughout the year. We invite you to contact us to schedule a Faith in Action project. Click here for expanded information or contact us at (515) 265-7272 or info@hopeiowa.org.

We welcome churches to place the following announcement in your bulletin, newsletter or Web site:

We would very much appreciate if you would click here to review the current announcement page for churches on our Web site. It includes serving opportunities and projects for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We will be contacting you soon about how you might be able to help us with our First Annual Walk a Mile in Their Shoes walk-a-thon scheduled for September 5, and how your church can participate. Praying for Hope Ministries

Hope Prayer Team: One of the very best ways you can support Hope Ministries is through prayer! We invite you to participate in our Hope Prayer Team One where you will find information about specific prayer requests and praises. In addition, if you have a personal prayer request, we invite you to submit your request through our on-line form. Our staff meets to pray each morning at 9 a.m. and we will remember you in prayer.

We invite you to pause and pray the following:

Father in Heaven,
I pray for the homeless men, women and children served by Hope Ministries—that they would experience peace of mind and healing physically, emotionally and spiritually. I thank and praise you, Lord, for the volunteers and staff who serve faithfully at Hope Ministries' Bethel Mission, Door of Faith, Hope Family Center and Hope Outreach Center, giving of their time, energy and love to the shelter and recovery residents. I thank you, Lord, for all those who sustain the work of Hope Ministries through their faithful and consistent financial support. In Jesus' name, Amen.
