Outreach & Events

Easter Sunday: We are now accepting volunteer registration for our special "Bearing Your Burdens" Easter celebration on Sunday, April 4. We will serve meals on-site at our Hope Café and deliver more than 1,500 meals to the homebound, elderly and low-income families. If you are interested in volunteering on Easter, please contact Erin at (515) 265-7272 or info@hopeiowa.org. Or, you can register online here.

Wake Up Call: We'll be hosting our first-ever evening event just for youth groups called Wake Up Call, featuring Ashley Smith Robinson. This event is set for Friday, April 30, from 7 - 10 p.m., to be held at the Des Moines Christian School Gymnasium in Urbandale. In lieu of ticket costs, youth groups will be asked to collect and donate items (detergent, socks, dish soap, etc.) to be used at Hope Ministries. The event will also include a free-will offering. Youth leaders must to pre-register their groups for this event. To register, contact Mary at (515) 265-7272 or info@hopeiowa.org. Or, you can register online here.

2010 Hearts for Hope Women’s Tea: This elegant event is set for Saturday, May 1, at the West Des Moines Sheraton Hotel. This is our major fundraiser for Hope Family Center. The program begins at 11 a.m. with special keynote speaker Ashley Smith Robinson, dubbed "Atlanta’s Hostage Hero" after she spent seven hours as hostage to courtroom escapee Brian Nichols and eventually convinced him to turn himself in. The event will also include testimonies from past and current recovery residents, special music and a "Couch & Coffee Q&A" with Ashley.

Reservations are required, and it is $25 to reserve your seat. Registration begins March 15. If you are interested in hosting a table, please contact Melissa at (515) 265-7272 or info@hopeiowa.org.

Donation Drives: We recently updated our Donation Drives pages on our Web site. These pages have all kinds of helpful information on donation drives you, your church, family or group might be interested in coordinating—such as Share a Pair, a drive for used shoes, or Change for a Change, a project to collect money for diapers, which are always a need at our Hope Family Center. If you are interested in coordinating any of the donation drives listed on our Web site, please call us at (515) 265-7272 or e-mail info@hopeiowa.org. Thank you!

Clothing Drives: We are especially in need of churches and groups who will coordinate clothing drives for Hope Ministries. We provide FREE clothing to our residents as well as to the community through our King’s Closet program, and we sell low-cost clothing in our Hope Bargain Center. We also bale excess clothing, much of which is then sent to developing countries. Your clothing donations make a difference! Please call us at (515) 265-7272 or e-mail info@hopeiowa.org if you are interested in coordinating a clothing drive.

Praying for Hope Ministries

Hope Prayer Team: One of the very best ways you can support Hope Ministries is through prayer! We invite you to visit our Hope Prayer Team site where you will find information about specific prayer requests and praises. In addition, if you have a personal prayer request, we invite you to submit your request through our online form. Our staff meets to pray each morning at 9 a.m., and we will remember you in prayer.

We invite you to pray with us:

Father, thank you for the opportunity to come to you in prayer! We praise you for all the ways you’re working through Hope Ministries. Thank you for all the churches and groups who partnered with us this year for Souper Bowl Sunday … for the more than 50 individuals currently completing our volunteer orientation process … for the incredible generosity of our donors who continue to support our ministry.

And we pray for the hundreds of men, women and children receiving food, clothing, shelter and long-term support at Hope Ministries. Let them experience your love all throughout their journey of recovery. We pray especially for the men who will celebrate their graduation from our recovery program in March. And we pray for our staff as we plan many upcoming events from our Easter celebration to our volunteer appreciation to our Wake Up Call and Hearts for Hope Women’s Tea.

Thank you for your love and guidance! Amen.
