1 Samuel 3:10 – The Lord came and stood there, calling as the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Tailored specifically for church youth groups (7th through 12th grades), Hope Ministries’ youth event is truly meant to be a “wake up call” for today’s teenagers. Just like Samuel in the Bible—and Ashley Smith Robinson—God is out to get their attention!

What You Need to Know:

Wake Up Call
Date: Friday, April 30
Time: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Doors open: 6 p.m.
Location: Des Moines Christian School
13007 Douglas Parkway in Urbandale
FREE—Pre-registration Required

In lieu of ticket cost, youth groups will be asked to sponsor a donation drive at their church to collect items to help Hope Ministries serve homeless men, women and children. (Example items: socks, detergent, dish soap, etc.) Each youth group will be assigned a specific item to collect for their donation drive when they register for the event. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a free-will offering. Registration is required.

The event will include lively music, testimonies from both past and current Hope Ministries recovery residents, a fun challenge for youth group leaders and, of course, Ashley Smith Robinson!

About Ashley
Ashley Smith Robinson made news headlines in 2005 when she was held hostage for seven hours by a man who escaped an Atlanta courthouse and killed several people. Ashley read to the man from Rick Warren’s The Purpose-Drive Life and eventually convinced him to turn himself in.

Ashley’s story, though, stretches back further than that life-changing incident in 2005. As a teenager and young adult, she struggled with many of the same temptations facing high schoolers in church youth groups including drugs and alcohol. She says God gave her several “wake up calls” before the one in 2005 that finally turned the tide.

During the event, Ashley will share her testimony and focus on “lies that Satan tells us to get us on the wrong track. Things like drugs and hanging out with the wrong crowd, simple things that teenagers thing won’t harm the, but in reality will. I’ll talk to students about the redeeming love and grace of Jesus Christ, the true love and wholeness that He brings and ONLY he brings.”

A note from Ashley to students:
I am so looking forward to hanging out with you and sharing my heart with you. I am going to be real and honest about my past life in hopes that you will never make the same mistakes I did. You are the future, and you can make this world a better place if you just follow the perfect plan God has for your life!

Ashley’s book, Unlikely Angel: The Untold Story of Atlanta’s Hostage Hero, debuted at #15 on the New York Times Bestseller list. More information about Ashley can be found on her Web site.
