Holiday Food Needs
Help feed the hungry and homeless this holiday season by donating items from this list. You may also choose to send a cash gift in the envelope provided or give online. Bring your donations to our Bethel Mission facility, 1310 Sixth Avenue in Des Moines. Thanks!
We need more than 150 turkeys, turkey rolls and ham!

Ongoing Food Donation Needs
Hope Ministries’ maintains three food pantriesBethel Mission, Door of Faith and Hope Family Center.
Hope Ministries is currently serving between 350 and 400 meals a day to homeless and hungry men, women and children. The following list shows ongoing food needs and staples that if donated would save us significant funds which we could re-direct to other ministry and meal needs. Thank you for helping when you can. Please drop off your food donations at our Bethel Mission facility located at 1310 6th Ave.

Specific Items
Men’s pajamas: M, L, XL, XXL This is an ongoing need at our Bethel Mission facility.
Bath towels and wash cloths is something we are always in need of year-round at our shelter facilities.
Adult socks of various sizes is an item that we need throughout the year.
New men’s underwear. All sizes. It’s a real need at our men’s shelters.
Deodorant is a year-round need.
Bar soap a year-round need.
Hope Bargain Center Donations:
Remember to donate your slightly used clothes, furniture and other items to Hope Ministries. If it can’t be used within our ministry and for our residents, we definitely will use it at our Bargain and Community Outreach Center where proceeds of sales is used to support our ministry to the homeless and hungry here in Des Moines and central Iowa.
Hope Bargain Center Volunteers:
Our Thrift Ministry is growing and so is our need for volunteers at our Hope Bargain and Community Outreach Center. We need 35 VIP volunteers on a weekly basis. Currently we have seven weekly volunteers who help sort donations, greet and assist customers and place-donated items on floor displays & racks. We’d love to have you join our Bargain Center volunteer team.
Hope Ministries Needs Volunteers

Child Care & Children’s Activity Leaders:
The greatest need right now at Hope Family Center is for Child Care & Children’s Activity Leaders for Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday mornings.
Hope Café Volunteers Needed:
Hope Ministries is seeking volunteers to serve as Meal Ministers at our lunch and/or dinner times at Hope Café located at our Bethel Mission facility. You will greet meal guests as they enter, help them feel welcomed, pray a blessing on the meal, visit with and listen to guests, provide a token toy for the children from our toy bin, and reflect the light of Christ. The time commitment is 2 hours once a week, bi-weekly or monthly. Call (515) 265-7272 or e-mail info@hopeiowa.org.
Volunteers are needed at Hope Bargain Center:
Hope Ministries is seeking 35 volunteers for our Hope Bargain and Community Outreach Center to help sort donations and assist with our King’s Closet clothing giveaway program for families in need. Individuals and groups are invited to participate in three-hour shifts from 9:00 a.m. to noon and/or noon to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Wednesday evening volunteers from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. are also needed. Call (515) 265-7272 or e-mail info@hopeiowa.org.
Hope Family Center Volunteer Receptionist:
Hope Family Center is seeking a volunteer at our community relations desk on Monday’s and Friday’s to help answer phones from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or for what ever time you are able to donate. Please call (515) 265-7272 if you can help.
A One-time Two-day Volunteer Opportunity:
Hope Ministries is seeking a volunteer for a short-term commitment to help with filing and alphabetizing over a two-day period at our Bethel Mission facility during the day. If you can help, please call (515) 265-7272.
Meals for Hope Volunteers Needed:
Hope Ministries is seeking volunteer groups to adopt a meal at our Bethel Mission or Door of Faith facilities once a month. Groups will prepare off-site, deliver and serve the meal.
In addition, we are seeking groups to adopt a meal at our Hope Family Center once a month. Groups will prepare and deliver, but not serve the Family Center meal. Please call (515) 265-7272 for details.
Volunteer Photographer:
Hope Ministries is seeking a photographer who could volunteer with special events. Please call (515) 265-7272 if you can help.
Web Site Volunteer:
Hope Ministries is seeking a volunteer to assist with our Web site maintenance. Please call (515) 265-7272 if you can help.
Administrative Volunteer Opportunities:
Hope Ministries has an urgent need for volunteers to help with general office duties including mailings, data-entry, filing, etc. at our administration office. Please call (515)265-7272 if you have a few hours a week to donate.
Donation Pickup Volunteers:
We are seeking individuals or groups that would be willing to assist and/ or pick up food and/or other in-kind donations i.e. clothing, furniture, etc. If you have the time to volunteer in this way, please click here to CONTACT US.
Work Groups:
We welcome work group volunteers to help with fall and spring raking and lawn work at our three shelter locations. In addition we are in need of year-round volunteer work groups to help sort donations at our Hope Bargain and Community Outreach Center.
Electrician:
We are seeking an electrician to volunteer to switch out some outlets at our Hope Family Center.
