Liz’s Testimony
Learning Her Life Matters

Liz
“This really works if you truly want your life to change and are willing to give up your old way of thinking,” Liz says of our HEART Recovery Program. “This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. You deal with emotions on a daily basis, but it’s the long-run picture that’s great!”
“I tried killing myself in the past, but obviously God had a different plan for me,” says 24-year-old Liz, a resident of our Hope Family Center. We became her “last hope” after a five-year battle with mental health issues including depressing, anxiety, bulimia and self-injury. Her struggles led to several periods of hospitalization and being asked to leave college.

“I grew up feeling worthless and that I was a mistake,” she feels comfortable sharing now. “There were lies after lies in my head about who I was. Those things it says in the Bible about who I am in Christ – I could apply them to other people, but I didn’t include myself in those truths.”

At Hope Ministries, she’s finally receiving the guidance and compassion she’s longed for. “The thing I love most here is the support of the staff. I can truly be myself and make mistakes and talk about personal issues and not be judged – and not have people laugh at me. When you are able to talk with someone who truly understands and cares, it’s amazing.”

Liz also appreciates the practical guidance we’re providing. “They’re teaching me life skills I somehow missed in the past, like dealing with money and building relationships.”

Most important, she’s accepting the truth that God loves her. “When I came to Hope Ministries, I think it was the combination of being loved unconditionally, being forgiven and being given grace. For the first time in my whole life, I am finally realizing I matter to God – that He truly loves me and has a purpose for me. I know He is going to use the things that happened to me to help others. All of this is not in vain.”

Thank you for your gifts and prayers that let Liz and other residents like her kow their lives are precious in God’s eyes and yours.
