Thanksgiving Serving Opportunity

Thanksgiving Serving Opportunity: Thanksgiving and Christmas are extra special outreach days at Hope Ministries, and our volunteers, ambassadors and churches are a big part of them. We began accepting reservations on September 1 for more than 200 volunteer spots. The need for Thanksgiving Day on-site volunteers is filled. However, we are especially in need of volunteers to sign up to bring the following food donations for our Thanksgiving meal.
  • One or more pans of pre-cooked and picked turkey
  • Green bean casserole
  • A gallon or two of 2% milk
  • A dozen or more eggs
  • Pumpkin or other pies
  • Dinner rolls
Please call (515) 265-7272 to register to bring food. These items will need to be delivered the day before Thanksgiving to our Hope Cafe located at our Bethel Mission facility at 1310 6th Avenue. Thank you so much!

Christmas Serving Opportunities

Hope's Ambassadors Invitation: We have a special holiday serving opportunity for our Hope's Ambassadors. Monday, December 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., we will be hosting our "Resident Toy Shopping Day" at our Bethel Mission facility. This is a chance for our recovery residents and families to "shop" for free toys and gifts for their children. We invite our ambassadors to join us during this fun morning and help residents select and wrap gifts. Feel free to e-mail Erin or call (515) 265-7272 if you'd like to help out.

Christmas Adopt-a-Brother and Adopt-a-Family: You and your church family or coworkers have an opportunity to make Christmas extra special for our residents and community guests through our Adopt-a-Brother and Adopt-a-Family programs. We welcome you to assemble HOPE BOXES and/or gift bags for the individuals and families who celebrate with us on Christmas Day. Details about these holiday programs are outlined on our Web site.

Scan Away Hunger 2008 kicks off Friday, November 28, and runs through Friday, December 26. Scan Away Hunger plates will be available starting November 28 at participating Hy-Vee stores. All funds received through Scan Away Hunger will be used to help feed and care for homeless and hungry men, women and children in central Iowa throughout the year.

*Attention Churches and Ambassadors! Would your church consider hosting "Fill a Plate with Hope Sunday" on Sunday, December 7? This is a special opportunity for churches to take a stand against hunger in our community. For more information and to order free plates for your church to distribute, click here.
