IN HER OWN WORDS
“Hi I'm Sarah Dean.  I am a 7th grade student at Des Moines Christian School.  As part of my accelerated Program at DMC, I had the privilege of organizing a service project.  I chose Hope Ministries’ Family Center because I wanted to do something that would benefit children in the Des Moines Area.  I chose to have a book and movie drive, as I feel that all children deserve an opportunity to excel academically.  I was able to collect 190 books and 54 movies. I would like to present these books and movies to Hope Family Center. Thank you Hope Family Center for all you do for the children of Des Moines and the surrounding area.  We appreciate your ministry.”

Local youth group volunteering at our Hope Bargain Center and SERVICE AND MISSION DAY.

Zion Lutheran Church youth and adult sponsors volunteer at our Hope Bargain Center on a Wednesday night sorting donations.

Two youth groups combine on a SERVICE AND MISSION DAY delivering bags of food.

St. Theresa School toured Hope Ministries’ Bethel Mission facility.  Each student brought a package of toilet paper for Hope Family Center.  A total of 336 rolls were collected.  We thank God for their generous spirit!

Members of the youth group from New Life Church in Pleasant Hill sponsored a donation drive called TREASURES FOR HOPE—a scavenger hunt, going door to door collecting items for Hope Bargain Center.

This 7th grade Sunday School class from Asbury United Methodist Church from Webster City volunteered in our Hope Thrift Distribution Center.  They accomplished a great deal sorting through hundreds of bags and boxes of donated clothing that will be given away to homeless and impoverished families and also sold at our Hope Thrift Center.  The group also experienced a community meal and toured our Bethel Mission facility.

Kimber Jackson and Ann Lenahan delivered 35 fleece blankets from Zion Lutheran Church.  Also pictured on the right is Denise Schemper, community relations associate for Hope Ministries.  During our visit, a homeless women who had been sleeping outside knocked on the south door at Bethel Mission asking if we had any blankets.  Kimber and Anne were able to select a blanket from their stack and give it to her.  David Burrier, Denise, Kimber and Ann were able to have a circle prayer with the lady and offer words of encouragement.

A group of youth and adults came for a tour and orientation of our Bethel Mission facility.  They brought with them 19 WE CARE KITS and three small bags of clothes.  In addition, this group sponsored a fundraiser for Hope Ministries, camping out in cardboard boxes in their church parking lot.  They presented us with a check for $202.05.  What a blessing this group has been to Hope Ministries.

EDS employees sponsor a donation drive and delivered over 30 WE CARE KITS.

Pictured here is the "Orphan Train" Quilt made by 5th graders at Olmstead Elementary.  They read the story, saw the play, and then each made a quilt square.  Their teacher, Sharon Carey, sewed the quilt together and then they auctioned it off to parents.  The school then donated the earnings—$187—to HPM.

Merry Cunningham and Larry Caltrider present matching gift checks from Qwest for their volunteer hours at Hope Ministries.

Sarah Thompson and Sara Vouthilak, co-owners of Dabble Books and More, 324 Factory Outlet Dr., Story City, coordinated a blanket drive for Hope Ministries.

God continues to make divine appointments at Hope Ministries by revealing donors who meet our needs.  Pictured here is Bob De May (second from the right) who donated a Toro Power Lite snowblower for Hope Family Center.  Also pictured is Jill Wheeler (second from the left) from Wheeler’s Outdoor Power Equipment Inc., 6575 NE 14th Street in Des Moines, whose company partnered with Mr. De May in making this donation possible.  Also pictured is Steve Baker (kneeling), Hope Ministries facilities manager, Elizabeth Spragg (left) director of family ministries, and Doreatha Williams (third from the left), daytime supervisor for Hope Family Center.
