 God has been my lifesaver here at Hope Ministries
When Gerome looks back on his childhood, he doesn’t remember many happy times. He had a congenital problem that forced him to wear diapers until he was 12. The other kids teased him unmercifully, and he had few friends. Things weren’t much better at home. His alcoholic stepfather beat his mother.
At age 11, Gerome tasted his first beer. He liked how it made him forget his pain. Tragically, he spent the next 25 years drowning himself in alcohol and drugs.
Last December, Gerome’s wife finally had enough. She told him to leave because she couldn’t stand to watch him kill himself with drugs and alcohol. Soon after, Gerome lost his job. He became severely depressed and contemplated suicide.
We threw Gerome a life preserver. And through our STAR recovery program at our Door of Faith recovery facility, he’s conquered his addiction and learned how to find new life in Christ Jesus.
“Hope Ministries saved me from a life of darkness … a life of pain,” Gerome says. “They have given me a chance at a life that is meaningful.”
