Living from the Heart
A recent survey estimates 22 percent of children in Des Moines live in poverty; 14 percent of children in our state go without adequate food, shelter or clothing.*
Statistics like these prompted Hope Ministries to open Hope Family Center in 2004. Our purpose was simple: Welcome homeless and displaced mothers with children, or those seeking to regain custody of their children, and assist them through a long-term Christian residential and life recovery program to provide a stable environment for their families in the future.
Broken families are a fact in America. Single mothers often struggle to earn enough to care for their children’s most basic needs. When you add domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, depression and other factors, families find themselves teetering onand often falling offthe edge of homelessness. In January, Hope Ministries’ staff was elated to open our third Hope Family Center home for mothers and their children! Within weeks, we added five new families to our fold … families who will have the opportunity to grow together in Christ and one day become productive and independent members of our community.
When you pray … when you give … when you volunteer, YOU are helping to change the lives and better the futures of these women and their children.
YOU are helping to strengthen our city and add to the Body of Christ.
“YOU are the light of the world. … let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14a, 16b)
