Volunteers are the lifeblood of Hope Ministries. Nearly 1,000 people provide valuable services to our varied programs and facilities each and every year. We offer a variety of service and volunteer opportunities for you and/or your group to become personally involved.
Coming face-to-face with the homeless and needy can be a life-changing experience. No longer are they faces on television, or an "issue" to discuss. Instead, they're people – men and women, boys and girls – with hopes, loves, dreams, disappointments, and a compelling need for God's love. We invite you to consider joining our ministry team as a volunteer.
Hope Ministries Volunteer Ministry Program consists of two components to best minister to the growing needs of Hope Ministries as well as volunteers like you.
V.I.P Volunteer Program
The Volunteer Impact Program (V.I.P.) includes the recruiting, screening, selecting, training and leading of volunteers who are called by God and committed to a particular volunteer ministry. "Impact" refers to the impact on the organization and the eternal impact on the Kingdom of God. V.I.P.'s are considered to be partners with the paid staff, serving together in God's work to affect His Kingdom.
Examples: Thrift Store Helper, Hope Ministries Ambassador, Teaching a class, Mentoring Residents, Hope Family Center Birthday Coordinator
I nformal Volunteer Program
The Informal Volunteer Program is designed for groups or individuals who are interested in learning more about homelessness and desire to volunteer one-time or occasionally.
Examples: Saturday Night Street Ministry, sponsoring a fundraising event for Hope Ministries, sponsor a drive for urgent needs (disposable razors for example)

A Soft-Spoken Dynamo
Though the staff remembers Lisa Msuya as the quietest guest in the Community Awareness Tour back in the summer of 2006, they’ve since decided she’s a volunteer dynamo! “She’s still soft-spoken,” relates David Burrier, chief community relations officer, “but she puts actions to her words. She’s a great communicator and she loves Jesus and the hurting.”
As a Hope’s Ambassador for Wakonda Christian Church, Lisa challenged church members to donate Meals for Hope to Hope Family Center and collect furniture for a graduate moving out on her own. She’s also hosted a table at our Hearts for Hope Women’s Tea.
That doesn’t include the myriad projects she accomplishes as a V.I.P. volunteer at Hope Ministries, such as teaching sewing and scrapbooking, making quilts for a family and coordinating drives for diapers, school supplies and more!
“Hope Ministries demonstrates the love of Jesus to those they serve,” says Lisa. “They have so many areas where people can use their gifts. For instance, my Sunday school group is hosting a November birthday party for mothers and children at Hope Family Center—an awesome opportunity! And you know your donations and volunteer work will be used in the
right way.”
