We Care Kits

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

WE CARE KIT CLUB is for individuals, families or groups who make a monthly commit to provide a specific number of WE CARE KITS.  Indicate your level of involvement when you complete the online registration form and a member of our staff will be in contact to coordinate delivery details.

The Need:

Hope Ministries sponsors three shelters for the homeless in Des Moines including Bethel Mission – an emergency shelter for homeless men, Door of Faith – a long-term recovery center for homeless men, and Hope Family Center – a long-term recovery center for homeless mothers and their children.  We provide up to 265 year-round shelter beds.  Tending to the needs of our homeless guests requires a considerable supply of personal care (hygiene) items i.e. tooth paste, toothbrush, deodorant, shampoo, disposable razors etc.   The need for these items is year-round and requires substantial resources. 




Our thanks to students from Brubaker Elementary School in Des Moines, who collected items and assembled 60 WE CARE KITS!

Definition:

WE CARE KIT is a phrase used by Hope Ministries to describe an individually packaged supply of personal care (hygiene) items contained in one zip lock bag.

Purpose:

WE CARE KITS are used as welcome bags for new homeless guests at our shelters throughout the year providing basic personal care necessities.  Even more, the contents in this bag will introduce a homeless person to our Journey of Hope that offers healing and recovery.  WE CARE KITS provide individuals, families, groups, churches, schools, civic and service clubs and corporations a specific and focused donation drive that will have a direct positive impact on hurting people in our community.

Your participation in donating WE CARE KITS would be highly valued and would represent a direct dollar offset thereby freeing our funds to address other ministry needs.



Special Instructions:

  1. We ask that each kit contains one of each item listed below.
  2. Please DO NOT add items that are not on this list.
  3. We request that you use small personal size containers for deodorant, shaving cream, shampoo, body wash and toothpaste.
  4. Please enclose a completed WE CARE KIT CARD with encouraging words.
  5. Please sign with first names only.
  6. Please do not list your phone numbers or address.
  7. Place all contents in a one gallon size zip lock bag. Please do not substitute with other bags.

Required Contents for each WE CARE KIT:
  • WE CARE KIT CARD with note of encouragement
  • Pocket pack Kleenex
  • Disposable razor (Just one razor. Not a pack)
  • Shaving cream
  • 2N1 Shampoo
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothbrush cover
  • Deodorant
  • Bar soap or body wash
  • New washcloth
  • Dental floss
  • Toothpaste

What Not to Put in the Kit:

Anything more than what is listed above will need to be removed such as:

  1. Mouth wash
  2. Bible (Note: We provide every new shelter resident with a Bible.)
  3. Finger nail clippers or scissors
  4. Over the counter medication (i.e. Aspirin)
