02 Jul Make a Bed ~ Keep ‘Em Fed
One of our most meaningful opportunities for families volunteer groups is Make a Bed – Keep ’Em Fed. And it’s especially popular with church youth groups!
Here’s how it works: The volunteers bring new twin sheet sets and pillowcases for the number of beds they would like to “adopt” in our men’s recovery center (Door of Faith in Des Moines). As they replace the old sheets with new ones, we share how the activity is an analogy for the men in our life recovery program who are transforming from their old way of life to a new beginning. The volunteers also bring encouragement cards and cans of food to donate.
We give the group a tour of the recovery center and they get to hear a testimony from one or more of our guests.
Over and over we’ve heard our Make a Bed participants talk about how poignant the experience is. Due to the popularity of this volunteer activity, we’re now offering Make a Bed ~ Keep ‘Em Fed on the first and third Wednesdays of every month. If you or your group would like to participate, please contact us at (515) 265-7272 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
