We’ve rebranded our thrift stores!

We’re excited to unveil a new name for our growing thrift store operation, which currently includes two store locations. Previously named ENCORE Thrift Stores, the new name is Hope Ministries Thrift.

Along with the name change comes a partnership with SMCo Thrift, a thrift store management company which is working alongside us to enhance and expand our thrift operations.

“Our thrift stores play a vital role in our mission of serving men, women and children in need in Central Iowa,” says Hope Ministries President/CEO Leon Negen. “The stores provide revenue for our rescue and recovery programs and services, as well as job readiness training for our men and women in life recovery. Plus, the in-kind donations we receive at the stores supplement our budget and help make our work possible. We’re excited about our new working relationship with SMCo Thrift and the opportunity to take our thrift ministry to the next level.”

These immediate enhancements are available for Hope Ministries Thrift shoppers and donors:

  • Store hours at both Hope Ministries Thrift locations are expanding. Beginning today (Monday, March 1), both stores, located at 4640 Merle Hay Road in Urbandale and 500 E. Army Post Road in Des Moines, will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Hope Ministries Thrift is launching a new VIP program, allowing customers to register in-store to receive coupons and exclusive event offers.
  • In-kind donors can now request a donation pickup online. Learn more at //hopeiowa.org/thrift. In addition, in-kind donors will now receive emailed donation receipts.
“We hope to grow our thrift ministry in Des Moines and the metro area in coming years, and these enhancements further our momentum” says Negen.
