Freezin’ for a Reason is a fun opportunity for college students and church youth groups to make a difference—raising both funds and awareness about homelessness in Central Iowa!
Spend a chilly evening outdoors in your own makeshift shelter across your college campus or church grounds and collect donations. Proceeds collected by students will provide warm meals, safe shelter and life recovery programs for our homeless and hurting neighbors. So gather your coats, grab a cardboard box or tent and talk to your friends . . . it’s about to get chilly!

How to Participate

1) Pick a date and get signed up.

Fill out the form below to let us know your campus/church wants to get involved. If you’ve got questions, please feel free to reach out to Jamie Coulson at jcoulson@hopeiowa.org or (515) 265-7272.

2) Spread the word and begin collecting donations.

Some groups collect donations in the days/weeks leading up to their event. Others collect during the event. We’ll create a special donation page for your group with a unique link you can share to collect donations from friends, parents, etc. You can also collect donations via cash, check, or Venmo. We’ll give you a code to use with Venmo gifts so we can make sure to attribute gifts to your group.

3) On the night of your event, get your shelters ready!

Gather your supplies . . . cardboard boxes, tents, blankets, etc. Grab your jackets and get ready to get chilly. Also, please feel free to take pics and share on social media with the hashtag #freezinforareason.

4) Coordinate with our staff to get donations to Hope Ministries.
