Holiday Volunteer Opportunities

Believe it or not, we’re already gearing up for our 2021 holiday outreaches! As in past years, we will be serving and delivering free meals on both Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as hosting big holiday food donation drives on the day before both holidays . . . and we’ll need your help to make it all happen! We’ll be looking for onsite volunteers plus meal delivery driver teams.

Online volunteer registration is open now!

Volunteer on Thanksgiving

Every year it’s one of our most popular volunteer opportunities—Thanksgiving! It’ll take 100+ volunteers to help us deliver around 3,000 meals throughout the Des Moines area. Want to help? Registration is open now!

Once again, we’ll be looking for volunteers to help with the following:

  • Wednesday, November 24 – Thanksgiving Food Donation Day: On the day before Thanksgiving, we will receive thousands of food donations from community members! We need volunteers to help us accept and organize donations. The time commitment is 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 25 – Thanksgiving Onsite Volunteers: Help us assemble around 3,000 meals to be delivered into the community! Onsite volunteers must be 13 or older. The time commitment is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 25 – Thanksgiving Meal Delivery Driver Teams: Help deliver meals around Des Moines. We will provide addresses several days in advance so you can use your phone/GPS to map a route. The time commitment is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Onsite volunteers must be 13 or older. If you’re a family with younger children, consider signing up to serve as a meal delivery driver team!

Online Thanksgiving volunteer registration opens on Monday, October 4. Click here to sign up!
