Take a Tour
We offer community awareness tours of our Bethel Mission men’s shelter from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
The tour includes a walkthrough* of our 110-bed men’s shelter and our Hope Cafe, where we serve free breakfast, lunch and dinner daily to our residents and the community at-large. We’ll end our time together with lunch and Q&A in Hope Cafe. Bethel Mission is located at 1310 6th Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50314.

*The walking portion of our tour will last around 45 minutes. The facility is fully accessible, including a ramp outside and an elevator inside.

Two Other Ways to See Your Impact
We also offer some impactful opportunities for groups to come onsite to learn and be inspired . . . and to see firsthand the impact they’re making! These are both good fits for families, youth groups or other church/corporate/civic groups, from five to 50 people.
- Make a Bed ~ Keep ‘Em Fed (Door of Faith): Visit our men’s life recovery center, make a bed in one of the dorms and hear an inspiring testimony from one of our residents who is working hard to rebuild his life. We’ll ask you to bring a new pair of twin sheets and a pillowcase, a note of encouragement, and a food donation.
- Hope Experience (Bethel Mission): A service project and more! We’ll ask your group to bring along materials to assemble either hygiene kits (we call them We Care Kits) or laundry pod packets. While you assemble kits, you’ll hear a testimony from one of our residents. After the activity, we’ll take a tour of the shelter.
We can host both of these activities during dates and times that work for your group. The time commitment depends on the size of your group, but generally, both activities can last around two hours.
