Susan was on the right track. She’d gotten out of jail, gotten clean. But despite her best efforts, she struggled to find employment. And that led to an eviction.
“I was bouncing around from couch to couch for basically over a year,” she says, looking back on some of the hardest months of her life. Even when she managed to find a job, her waves were garnished. “It was really hard to survive. I said, ‘All right, what I’m doing isn’t working.’ So I came to Hope Ministries.”
Susan received safe shelter and care at Hope Ministries Center for Women and Children. After about two months, she decided to join our long-term life recovery program.
“That’s when my whole world started changing really quick,” she remembers. “I felt loved. I’ve always felt loved by my mom and my family, but this was different. It was people who loved me even when they didn’t have to.”
“I’ve got an inner peace that I’ve never had in my entire life!”
Susan
In November, Susan celebrated her graduation from CORE, the first year of our life recovery program! She has maintained her sobriety, quit smoking and found a job at a local coffee shop. Her faith in God has been reinvigorated.
“I just do my best to try to listen to Him and trust that He will provide,” she says. “He’s done nothing but bless me. It’s been amazing.”
Susan has also begun to experience healing and restoration within her family. When she first walked through our doors, she’d been mostly cut off from her adult children for years.
“The reconciliation with my family has been consistent and ongoing. They’ve shown me they’re happy about the changes I’m making just by talking to me,” she says.
Today, Susan has that life is going to keep getting better and better! When she imagines her future, it’s a good one. “I hope to be married to a man of God, maybe have a home again—a house and a yard.”
And to the donors who have helped her dream again, Susan’s heartfelt message is short and sweet: “Thank you. you helped change my life.”
